“She should have done science, not spent all her time with her head in novels. Novels gave you a completely false idea about life, they told lies and they implied there were endings when in reality there were no endings, everything just went on and on and on.”
My love of Kate Atkinson began with this book and, I believe, this quote. She just gets it right — in her mysteries as well as her stand-alone fiction and short stories. Jackson Brodie is the only detective series I’ve ever read (and will continue to read if she writes it).
