It’s the first Wednesday of 2013. You know what that means? (Really, it means back to work and the end of vacation for me, but it’s also a great day for a book post). Feel free to play along. Just answer the following three (3) questions…

What are you currently reading? I’m half-way through The Twelve Tribes of Hattie by Ayana Mathis. The book was a Christmas gift, well-chosen and very engaging. Still trying to finish the audio version of Laura Moriarty‘s The Chaperone. This is a LONG book — really good, but I’m ready for it to be over.
What did you recently finish reading? Finished Michael Chabon‘s Telegraph Avenue, which I wanted to love, but didn’t. Despite his often brilliant prose, I found the details and cultural references bogged the narrative down and prevented me from really engaging with the characters. On the other hand, I kicked off 2013 with a graphic-style memoir, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic. I love a good memoir and Alison Bechdel‘s coming-out story fit the bill, although I’m not sure about the comic-strip approach.
What do you think you’ll read next? I’m determined to read Kate Morton soon. I also have an ARC of With or Without You. being released on February 26, that I should read and review. It’s so great to feel like 2013 is wide open with book possibilities.

You go to widgets and then you click Text. Go to Goodreads and copy the badge link. Go back to Text and copy it in there. Before you do all of that you need to pick up the Text widget and place it where you want it in the side bar. It’s easy. I’m no expert either. Someone told me how to do it. I kept picking up the image widget and it’s the Text widget you need to do it. No excuses. Get to it! It’ll look beautiful in your side bar. 🙂

I really love this game.
The Chaperone is on my list so thanks for the heads up. Have been toying with the idea about adding The Twelve Tribes of Hattie to it. What do you think? Should I? As for Kate Morton!! My favourite of hers so far was The Distant Hours. Oh man did I cry. Happily right now I’m reading The Secret Keeper which makes for a really great segue right here.
I just finished At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson which I loved. A lot. So many interesting factoids for playing Jeopardy! (Nerd) As for what I will read next – my book club just selected The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce so it might be that. Or the final Maeve Binchy. Or one of those classics that I like to pretend I’m going to read: either Les Miserables or Nicholas Nickelby!

Highly recommend 12 Tribes…
I also liked Harold Fry, although maybe not as much as the “critics.” It took me a while to get into but it kept getting better, which was a nice surprise.
Haven’t read much Bill Bryson, but I’ve heard great things about At Home.

I’m about to start Twelve Tribes of Hattie. I mean, I’m literally on the first page. Just finished Gone Girl, which moved slow the first 150 pages then knocked me over the head with page turning excitement.

I like the image of being knocked over the head. I had a similar experience wiht Gillian Flynn. I’m looking forward to trying some of her other books. Enjoy Twelve Tribes.
